John served in the US Navy as a Corpsman, which included service with 1st Battalion, 1st Marines Weapons Company (MEUSOC/REINF) during combat operations.  Following his service with the US Marines he transitioned to psychiatry where he facilitated groups, provided training and psychiatric medical evacuations. During this time he recognized the significant impact of complimentary treatments, such as yoga, to traditional psycho- and pharmaceutical therapies.

He completed his 200-hour yoga teacher training at Eyes of the World Yoga Center (Providence, RI) and subsequently Veterans Yoga Project Teacher Training. Additionally, he is a Y12sr Leader (Yoga for 12-step recovery). In an effort to help de-stigmatize Yoga John teaches 6-8 classes per week including 2 classes specifically for Veterans.

He earned his undergraduate degree in Workforce, Education and Curriculum Development from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s degree in Human Development from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. John has been committed to service his entire life and currently works serving Veterans. Additionally, he works with Prajjali.com helping to connect Yoga studios that provide classes for Veterans.
