MATT RUHNKE / NEW HAVEN, CT
My name is Matt. I am a 10-year Army Veteran. Six of those years were in the Special Operations Community where I served as a Green Beret. I deployed 4 times in support of the Global War on Terrorism, including 3 combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
I got out of the Army in 2012, and since then have become personally familiar with PTSD and many of the other hardships that are commonly associated with it. I found yoga shortly after I left the military, and it has played a vital role in my own recovery process ever since. I eventually felt a calling to share the gift of yoga with others.
I got certified to teach yoga in June of 2016. I attended yoga teacher training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Healthy Living. Shortly after that I attended the Veteran’s Yoga Project teacher training as well. One of my passions is empowering people - by providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to use Yoga to face various challenges and to live a more fulfilling life.
I now enjoy teaching Yoga in and around the New Haven area, and being a full-time student at the University of New Haven, where I am studying as an Undergrad in Psychology.
